Jeremiah was a Bullfrog:He was a good friend of mine
SouthSideMessenger.com / Tue, 23 Dec 2008 10:02:19 -0600
DECEMBER 2006: “He’s ready for visitors if you would like to go up and see him,” Jeremiah’s mother said to me after preaching one Sunday at church. Her face was in anguish, beaten red with dried tears, tired from dropping to her knees and pleading to the Heavens above for the goodness of God’s grace to release her son from pain, to return him to the healthy state…
Bobcats Basketball Off to Great Start!
SouthSideMessenger.com / Tue, 23 Dec 2008 10:02:16 -0600
With only four returning 8th graders this year, one might think the CMS boys’ basketball team would be in a rebuilding year…not so. The Bobcats are off to a 4 and 1 start as they have completed one trip through the Western Division schedule of the Southside Middle School Conference. With only one loss to undefeated Lunenburg, the Bobcats have decisively defeated Powhatan,…

The Central Middle School Bobcats “saved up” in order to help raise money for the Keysville United Methodist Coat Project. During their Spirit Days, December 5 through December 10, the Bobcats participated in the “CMS Battle of the Classes Coin Contest.” The rules were simple. Pennies and quarters were positive points while nickels and dimes were negative…

COMMENTARY
SouthSideMessenger.com / Tue, 23 Dec 2008 10:02:09 -0600
This fall I have been writing a great deal about the Longwood Student Veterans organization and the work they have been doing to improve the transitional issues facing and affecting our returning OIF/OEF veterans. And recently, something struck me that I just have to share.

Calling All Knitters Crocheters!
SouthSideMessenger.com / Tue, 23 Dec 2008 10:02:08 -0600
The Special Olympics World Winter Games Organizing Committee along with Coats and Clark have teamed up to provide athletes who attend the World Winter Games in Idaho with a personalized gift that would highlight the 'winter' portion of the games as well as serve a functional purpose. The project was originally started in 2007, prior to the 2008 games. The goal this year…

Thankful
SouthSideMessenger.com / Wed, 26 Nov 2008 11:40:02 -0600
In keeping with the spirit of the season, I’m pausing to reflect on what’s been good about sports this year. I didn’t think it would be an easy task, but surprisingly enough, I found a few things for which I am thankful. Here goes, in no particular order.

The Sports Doctor: I Was Wrong
SouthSideMessenger.com / Fri, 21 Nov 2008 12:47:15 -0600
In 2007, when I learned that Mr. Know-it-All himself, Steven Hawking, had spent thirty years making an idiot of himself with a bogus black hole theory, I was thrilled. It was validating to know that even the most venerated (and egotistical) of us could be totally wrong. I prayed that if I were ever that wrong, it wouldn’t take me thirty years to admit it, and it hasn’t. I’ll say it loud and say it proud: I was wrong.

The Sports Doctor: The Less Fortunate
SouthSideMessenger.com / Fri, 14 Nov 2008 13:30:30 -0600
Despite our best efforts, we can't skirt everything we find unpleasant. We can put off going to the dentist, but sooner or later we have to face it. If I never had to go to Wal-Mart again, I wouldn't complain. When I face an unpleasant task, I try to remember those less fortunate. Lately I've been remembering Sean Glennon.
