Three wounded in possible shootout in Newport News

Three people are recovering from gunshot wounds they suffered Friday night.
Police spokeswoman Holly McPherson said officers received phone calls around 8:47 p.m. about several gunshots heard in the area of 28th and Chestnut streets.
Officers found one victim, a 46-year-old man, at the intersection of 27th and Chestnut streets.

CHESAPEAKE
An officer working part-time at a movie theater was injured while dealing with a disorderly person, according to a news release.
She was working at the Cinemark Chesapeake Square theater at 2413 Chesapeake Square Ring Road.
The officer received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
It is not clear what the officer's injuries were.

No one was injured in a residential fire in the 5500 block of Macguffie Street.
Battalion Chief Ken Pravetz said the fire started around 9:18 p.m., and crews were on the scene about five minutes later.
It took crews about 15 minutes to put the fire out.
Pravetz said the one-story home had significant damage.

A Virginia State University student is facing charges after police say she led them on a 20-mile pursuit with speeds over 100 mph, according to television station WTVR.
Around noon Thursday, a Sussex County deputy was on a traffic stop when he reported nearly being hit by a passing Honda Accord, investigators said.

Langley Air Force Base will conduct a readiness exercise on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The exercise will evaluate the ability of installation personnel to work in a deployed setting and adjust to changing security conditions, according to a news release.
There will be little impact on surrounding neighborhoods, but people might hear loudspeakers, sirens and explosions.
