Under an agreement with the city, first approved in 2008 and renewed several times since, the Battlefield Golf Club at Centerville was required to post signs alerting golfers that the course was built on a bed of fly ash. The powdery substance contains hazardous heavy metals.

A small, single-engine experimental plane crashed in a field Saturday, killing the pilot and a passenger.
The crash occurred about a third of a mile west of a runway at Suffolk Executive Airport, roughly three miles southwest of the city’s downtown.
