Lane closure planned for Steel Bridge in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE The Steel Bridge will have an overnight lane closure tonight for guard rail repairs. The northbound lane will close at 8 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday, a city news release says. Workers with flags will direct traffic through the southbound lane.

By Jeff Lawson A developing storm system along the southeast coast will be a powerhouse of a system by the time it reaches New England, but will get its act together a bit too late to do much here in Hampton Roads. The system should only drop temperatures a bit on Thursday and possibly bring a few wet snowflakes to mainly northern areas as it pulls away.

At 7:30 a.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation was reporting the following traffic issues: James River Bridge A lift is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. In Chesapeake, the city reports the following issues: Gilmerton Bridge Lifts are scheduled for 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Steel Bridge A lift is scheduled for 8 a.m.

Body found in burning car in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH A body was found inside a burning car this morning in the 400 block of Florida Ave. Dispatchers received a report about a car on fire shortly before 5:30 a.m., said Detective Jan Westerbeck, police spokeswoman. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found the body. No additional details were immediately available about the body.
