Jury to begin deliberations in John Edwards case

Jurors were set to begin deliberating the fate of John Edwards on Friday, weighing nearly four weeks of testimony and evidence from the former presidential candidate's corruption trial.

A person died died Thursday night following a fire at a home in the 1200 block of Rittman Road, Virginia Beach firefighters said.

NORFOLK
The westbound lanes of the Berkley Bridge will be closed Sunday morning for maintenance.
The work, from 5:30 to 10:30 a.m., requires the grid deck to be slightly lifted while maintenance is done on the lock bar, according to VDOT.
The eastbound lanes will not be affected.
Drivers can use the Midtown Tunnel as an alternate route.

According to the League of American Bicyclists, May is National Bike Month.
All month, bicyclists across the country are organizing events and encouraging others to ride bikes.

For the next few days we will be stuck in between two different weather systems. An area of high pressure to our north will be trying to bring in clear skies. At the same time a stalled out front to our southeast will be trying to inch closer to the coast, bringing in clouds and rain. Expect a mixture of sun and clouds today and tomorrow with isolated showers, especially points further south. Highs will remain at or just below average in the low to mid 70s.

VIRGINIA BEACH
A 76-year-old man died Thursday night in a fire in a home in the 1200 block of Rittman Road.
Firefighters responded to calls about the blaze at 9:12 p.m., Virginia Beach Fire Department spokesman James Ramsey said. Crews arrived five minutes later and found extensive smoke and flames.

The storm that brought so much rain the past few days is offshore but has come to a halt and the big question is whether it drifts back toward land over the next few days. It almost certainly is going to come back and affect North Carolina, but whether it drifts far enough north to bring southeastern Virginia rain is uncertain.
