With only two hours allotted to each side to make closing arguments today, prosecutors and defense lawyers neared the end of a month-long trial into whether former presidential candidate John Edwards violated campaign finance laws.

Students in two North Carolina school divisions will head to school late today because of fog.
Schools in Perquimans County will open one hour late, WVEC-TV was reporting. Hertford County schools also will open one hour late, according to the division's website.

The Virginian-Pilot is reporting that the 89-year-old man charged in connection to Tuesday's homicide in Chesapeake is due in court Thursday.The Daily Press reported Wednesday John Boyd was charged with first-degree and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony after police say he fatally shot 53-year-old Lionel Phillips. Expect a mix of partly to mostly cloudy skies today with just a slim chance for a leftover shower. Highs today will only reach into the low 70s, a few degrees below average. The humidity will drop today as well, making it feel nicer. Highs will warm back to near average for Friday and Saturday with a mix of sun and clouds. There is a slight chance for showers on Sunday as highs reach into the upper 70s.

NORFOLK
A man was listed as stable after being shot Wednesday night.
About 7:35 p.m., police responded to a call for a gunshot victim in the 800 block of East Princess Anne Road, Norfolk police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson said. An investigation determined only that a man had approached and shot another man, she said.

Virginia Tech tuition, take two.
The university Board of Visitors is set to meet in Arlington today at noon to consider three options for 2012-13 tuition and fee increases.
Without debate or a vote on the issue, the board abruptly ended a special meeting called April 20 in Roanoke to consider a 4.9 percent increase for in-state students.

The rain that deluged the area the past two days is gone, though there’s a chance for a stray shower or storm today across North Carolina.
Highs today should reach the low 70s near the coast and mid 70s inland, to go with partial sunshine. There will also be a fairly strong breeze out of the north.

CHESAPEAKE
An 89-year-old man is due in court this morning after he was charged with murder in the shooting of a 53-year-old man in South Norfolk.
John Boyd of the 1700 block of Hines Avenue was charged additionally with using a firearm in commission of a felony. The victim, Lionel Phillips, was shot once in the chest inside Boyd's house at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
