Shockoe baseball stadium plan wins initial backing 6-3
The Richmond City Council chose Monday to press ahead with the plan for a baseball stadium in Shockoe Bottom, but the 6-3 vote leaves little room for error as Mayor Dwight C. Jones sets out to finalize the project’s details.
Monday’s vote, which occurred around 11 p.m. after a marathon session, was not the final decision, but it was the first major test for the development plan unveiled by the mayor late last year.

A shooter on the street opened fire into a Norfolk home this morning, injuring one person inside. Norfolk police received a call at 8:44 a.m. that someone had fired into a home on the 1200 block of Maltby Avenue, said police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson. The injury was not life- threatening, she said.
