When it comes to state sales taxation, the rules are mostly pretty simple. You own a store that sells stuff, then you collect and send to the state the sales tax on the things you sell. Done.
But in a sales economy that's moving beyond bricks-and-mortar stores, and beyond state lines, the rules are getting blurrier. States are worrying about how to tax online sales, and now two states have sued a book retailer whose products are often offered by teachers....
