fullbright-bdshoot-mar2012-011-vrfJohn Fullbright (Photo: Vicki Farmer)Folk singer-songwriter John Fullbright considered it his "little kid therapy" when he first started making music. "I'd sit at a piano, and if I was sad I'd play minor chords, if I knew any, and if I was happy I would play upbeat songs," Fullbright said. He got his start early, taking up piano at the age of 5 and later learning guitar. He's 24 now and touring on the release of his debut studio album From the Ground Up, which came out earlier this month, but he feels that not much has essentially changed since those early compositions.

Veteran Providence Player to Direct Mystery-Thriller ‘Sleuth’

provBeth Hughes-Brown likes a challenge. The 14-year veteran of Providence Players of Fairfax, discussing the many productions she has directed for the local community theater group, delighted in recalling her production of "Witness for the Prosecution" in 2005, and how on one memorable night that popular theater credo "the show must go on" was tested. During the run of the Agatha Christie mystery, a truck hit a light pole a few blocks away, knocking out power to the James Lee Community Center Theater in the midst of a show. The Providence Players extended the invitation to usher play-goers out of the now darkened theater but, wrapped up in a gripping courtroom scene, the audience stayed, and so the actors sat cross-legged before the stage, using flashlights…

 This week, American Rivers, a national organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the nation's rivers and streams, released a report listing the country's ten most endangered waterways. Topping the list is the Potomac. It's a wakeup call that we must do more to protect our nation's waterways, particularly Potomac River.
