As Danville City Council was planning its budget this spring, it was learned it had a little more money to work with than originally thought.

Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson will receive the Sheriff Buford Pusser National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award, according to a written statement from the Sheriff Buford Pusser Festival.

The man who “went to repo a car” from some people on Mary Street called police because “there might be some trouble with the owners of the car.”

“I’m going to build it back whatever it costs,” said Pratt, who was out of town when his childhood home went up in smoke, “because it’s been part of Russell County for 100 years.”

Regenia Hayden, 57, was driving onto Interstate 81 at Exit 22 around 7:45 p.m. when it appears she lost control of her 2003 Toyota Sequoia, said Virginia State Police Trooper Christopher Wyrick. He said it seems she overcorrected and then her car went across the grass that separates the ramp from the Interstate.

Correctional officers at the jail were called to the solitary cell of Shannon Lee Graham, 40, of Bristol, Tenn., around 2 p.m. Friday when they were told by other inmates that he “appeared distraught and there may be a problem,” according to a written statement from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

The Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial, Virginia's monument to heroes, will be built outside of the General Assembly Building on Capitol Square in Richmond, Va. It will feature more than 500 names of public safety officials who have died in the line of duty, including police officers, sheriff's deputies, correctional officers, emergency rescue personnel, firefighters, game wardens and marine officers.

Beginning July 1, a new judge will take the seat formerly held by Judge David A. Melesco in Danville Circuit Court but left vacant since his retirement in December.
