North Carolina voted Tuesday to ban same-sex marriages with an amendment to the state's constitution.

Anne Moore-Sparks, the project manager with Danville’s Office of Economic Development that has been working on downtown revitalization, is resigning to join Gateway Health Alliance, according to a city news release.

“People in cars, trucks and buses are not looking for them,” said John Milliken, program coordinator for the Tennessee Motorcycle Rider Education Program. “Most are small, and get in the blind spot. People aren’t looking for that one headlight.”

Five people spoke during the public comment portion of Tuesday night’s meeting, including two opposed to a plan that could raise the real estate tax rate 5 cents for fiscal 2012-13. Last week, Mayor Ed Harlow said the city’s draft $83.2 million budget includes the increase, which restores the rate to 99 cents per $100 of assessed value, from the current 94 cents. The previous rate was $1.05.
