NORFOLK Choicetta McMillan scored 28 points as the Hampton Pirates topped Norfolk State 68-46 Saturday night in women's basketball Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action at Echols Hall. Melanie Warner added 15 points for the Pirates (18-4, 10-1). The Spartans (9-14, 4-8) were led by Tyisha Bridges, who finished with 11 points.

NORFOLK In the annals of the Old Dominion/Virginia Commonwealth rivalry, it will go down as "The Drought." Ten minutes, one point. Basketball action begins Monday night

NORFOLK The wonder of it all is that an Old Dominion basketball team that couldn't find a way to throw the ball in the basket - there were moments when the Atlantic Ocean would have presented a serious challenge - came within one clutch play Saturday of beating Virginia Commonwealth.

CHESAPEAKE Nobody associated with this season's Cox gymnastics team can pinpoint the last time the Falcons advanced to the state meet, but they're sure that it's been too long. For at least the past six years, Kellam and either Hickory or Great Bridge have represented the Eastern Region. Not this time.

NORFOLK Chris McEachin's first Battle of the Bay game was an epic failure: he missed all six of his shots from the field and went scoreless. His last Battle of the Bay game was just plain epic. With Norfolk State star center Kyle O'Quinn pinned in by double teams, the Spartans needed someone to heat up from the perimeter and McEachin did.

VIRGINIA BEACH Ali Brown made a layup as time expired Saturday, lifting Virginia Wesleyan to a 73-71 win over Hampden-Sydney. The Marlins took possession with 34 seconds left after the Tigers' Harrison George tied the game on a jumper. Tre' Ford found Brown near the rim for the winning basket. Ford recorded six assists, a game-high four steals, nine rebounds and 11 points.
