Silverstein as good as gold for Cavaliers
DURHAM, N.C. Virginia's hopes to repeat as ACC baseball champion last season all but expired with Scott Silverstein on the mound. This year, Silverstein revived them. The fifth-year senior who twice has undergone Tommy John surgery came within one out of a complete game Thursday in the Cavaliers' 8-2 win over Georgia Tech in pool play.

CHARLOTTESVILLE Running back Clifton Richardson is leaving the University of Virginia, the school announced Thursday. Richardson, who played for Menchville High School in Newport News, will have two years of eligibility left. Cavaliers coach Mike London did not specify why Richardson is leaving, but said in a news release that he is in good academic standing.

Basketball | P.A.‘s Swango says she’ll play at College of Charleston
Princess Anne point guard Justyce Swango, who helped guide the Cavaliers to the Group AAA state championship game this past season as a junior, has committed to the College of Charleston. Swango, the 16th-ranked point guard in the class of 2014 and a four-star recruit according to ESPN, averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 assists and 3.4 steals as a junior.

U.Va., Wisconsin get hoops rematch in December
These reunions of Virginia head coach Tony Bennett and his one-time boss, Bo Ryan, are starting to take on the look of an annual event. The pairings for the 2013 ACC/Big Ten Challenge were announced Wednesday, and U.Va. found itself matched with Wisconsin for a second straight year. The Cavaliers won at Wisconsin last year in what ranked as their biggest road win of the year.
