Shockoe baseball stadium plan wins initial backing 6-3
The Richmond City Council chose Monday to press ahead with the plan for a baseball stadium in Shockoe Bottom, but the 6-3 vote leaves little room for error as Mayor Dwight C. Jones sets out to finalize the project’s details.
Monday’s vote, which occurred around 11 p.m. after a marathon session, was not the final decision, but it was the first major test for the development plan unveiled by the mayor late last year.

NORFOLK All employees get raises and the real estate tax remains the same in a budget outlined for the City Council on Tuesday. City Manager Marcus Jones' $1.2 billion plan for fiscal 2015 calls for more than $812 million in general fund spending, a decrease of about $5 million from this year.
