McDOWELL — Mrs. Margaret Smith of McDowell announces the engagement of her daughter, Cheryl Simmons of Staunton, to Travis Halterman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Halterman of Monterey. The groom-to-be graduated from Highland High School, and is employed as a Career Fire Fighter with the County of Augusta. 25 years ago • A Bath County school budget of $5.9 million for the coming fiscal year was approved last Wednesday night by the county board of supervisors following a lengthy meeting with school board members. A total of $216,000 was trimmed from the original budget request of $6,125,410. 50 years ago • The Highland County Marketing Association again received the highest price for its wool pool of any such pools in the area. Beekeeper to visit Goshen Library GOSHEN — Natural Bridge beekeeper Lannie Ballard will be at the Goshen Public Library Monday, May 21 from noon to 1 p.m. He will be bringing an observation hive of honeybees for the public to view. He plans to explain the types of honeybees in the hive, what each type of bee does for the hive, how they communicate, and their importance to the quality and quantity of the food we eat.
